Postdoc to Faculty Workshop

About the Workshop

The Postdoc to Faculty Workshop is hosted annually by ACS to provide postdoctoral scholars interested in pursuing faculty positions at institutions of higher education with guidance and resource that support their job search. The workshop consists of several panel discussions and presentations on topics ranging from finding positions to the application and interview process to navigating the first year. Key features include individual consultations with current faculty, mock interviewing and networking opportunities.

Who Should Apply

Postdoctoral scholars interested in a faculty positions in the chemical science departments at two-year or four-year colleges and universities in the United States.

What You Will Learn

The Postdoc to Faculty Workshop will:

  • introduce the types of faculty positions and expectations in undergraduate and graduate level chemistry departments
  • provide guidance on preparing effective faculty application materials and the interview process
  • give strategies for inclusive teaching and mentorship
  • provide advice on balancing scholarship, teaching, and service expectations 
  • create a network of early-career faculty along with mentors, who can help guide newly-appointed professors

Upcoming Workshop

The 2024 Postdoc to Faculty Workshop will be held in Philadelphia, PA from  July 19 – July 21, 2024. 

How to Apply

For full consideration, interested postdoctoral scholars in the chemical sciences should apply by  April 7, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET.
