Career and Earth Day Videos For Youth

Chemists Celebrate Earth Day 2014 focused on the topic of water.  The videos below are a great resource for an elementary/middle school audience to show what chemists and chemical engineers do.  Examples of ways in which the videos can be used include:  viewing during the morning announcements or during a Chemists Celebrate Earth Day event, presentation at a career day program, sharing via social media, etc.

Transforming Tech Toys

Featuring Aydogan Ozcan

Ozcan is a research professor at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).   Ozcan takes everyday gadgets like cell phones and turns them into powerful, mobile laboratories. He’s made a cell phone into a blood analyzer, a bacteria detector, and now has built a device that turns a cell phone into a water tester that can detect mercury at very small levels.
