What Partnerships Do

Representatives from academic institutions, businesses, and/or community organizations may partner for a variety of reasons. Two- and four-year programs may partner with K-12 institutions to facilitate student transitions. Academic institutions may partner with industry to help students to enter their workforce. Regardless of their goals, all partnerships pool resources for mutual benefits.

The following are some examples of activities partners use to achieve their goals.

Curriculum Development

Partners help institutions develop industry-responsive curricula by:

  • Identifying and continuously updating skills required by industry
  • Monitoring employment and regional occupational trends
  • Ensuring that curricula, course content, and programs meet industry needs
  • Providing workplace experiences for students, such as internships and co-ops

Partners help institutions develop transferable curricula by:

  • Identifying and continuously updating knowledge required by four-year programs
  • Ensuring that curricula, course content, and programs meet college/university requirements
  • Providing research opportunities and mentors to students

Supporting Faculty and Institutions

Partners support student education and preparation by:

  • Engaging in strategic planning
  • Sharing financial, capital, and human resources
  • Providing professional development opportunities for faculty
  • Promoting diversity among faculty and students

Recruiting and Placing Students

Partners aid student recruitment by:

  • Establishing articulation agreements with secondary and postsecondary institutions
  • Participating in open houses

Partners help graduates find jobs through:

  • Career counseling
  • Targeting prospective employers
  • Facilitating job placement
