Bridging the Gap Nano-Grant: Planning for Success
Focus: This $250 nano-grant provides funding for ACS Local Sections to critically assess and address local section organization and planning, which requires discussion/streamlining/improvement.
Guidelines: ACS Local Sections are encouraged to organize an event/meeting with officers and interested members to promote discussion about their current organizational structure and to focus on strategic planning.
Areas of potential focus (the following are suggestions only; a local section is NOT limited to these concepts):
- Bylaw review and revision: All local sections are encouraged to update their bylaws and in some cases are required to do so. For example, if a local section wishes to conduct elections using electronic voting this MUST be reflected in the bylaws). A listing of all Local Section Bylaws can be found on the ACS website.
- Annual budget development: Budget planning is essential for local sections to successfully manage their finances. A clear and concise financial report is required as part of the local sections’ annual reports.
- Strategy Café: Organize a Strategy Café with an open-ended goal of identifying areas that could use improvement within the local section and/or create an improvement plan to aid the local section in achieving its long-term goals.
