Fellowship Programs for Postdocs
  

Fellowships are available for young independent researchers, holding a PhD degree and having a successful post-doctoral experience to create new research groups in institutions in the State of São Paulo in Brazil. Grants are for a period of four years and include, among other things, travel for grantee and family, research funding for equipment, consumables and student fellowships.

This year long program includes a series of three seminar meetings, a Fulbright exchange experience and multi-disciplinary team-based research work on designated research themes: Science, Technology and Innovation; Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Energy. Applicants must be from Latin America, Canada, the Caribbean or the United States and must have expertise in one of these programmatic themes.

One grant is available for academics to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, organize seminars and develop collaborative research at universities in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. Preference will be given to the disciplines of Chemistry, Engineering and Geology. The recipient of this grant can select up to two Brazilian or U.S young researchers for postdoctoral fellowships to help with the development of the research activities.

Up to 25 grants are available for academics and professionals (with minimum five years’ experience) to teach and/ or conduct research in the areas of science, technology and innovation. Applications sought in all appropriate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields as well as proposals in areas of public and global health.

 Fulbright Core U.S. Scholar Program - All Disciplines Postdoctoral Research Award

Up to 5 grants are available for early career applicants (within five years of terminal degree) for 4-9 months to conduct postdoctoral research, give seminars, mentor graduate and undergraduate students and help enhance interdisciplinary teaching and research at the host institution. Applicants may propose affiliation with an accredited graduate program in Brazil as well as dual affiliations with research centers, think-tanks and non-governmental organizations.

Researchers with a PhD (obtained not more than seven years prior to application) are eligible for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at an approved institution within the Brazilian State of São Paulo. Duration of the fellowship is for 2 years with an extension for another year. In some special cases, fellowships can last up to 4 years but it is not awarded for periods shorter than 6 months. Applications need to be made by a supervising researcher at a university or research institution in the state of São Paulo.

Individuals with a PhD degree and an outstanding record of scientific accomplishments are eligible for the FAPESP Visiting Reseacher Program to work in a research institution in the State of São Paulo for a period of 2 weeks to a maximum of 12 months (non-extendable). Proposals need to be submitted by host investigators who must also have a PhD (or equivalent) and be associated with a research institution in São PauloFAPESP can also be contacted to assist with finding a potential host in São Paulo.

Key Dates: Proposals can be submitted any time of the year with a lead time of about 75 days for the final decision on the proposal.


Foreign researchers or professionals can apply for this grant to collaborate on developing lines of research or technological development. The duration is for 3-12 months and can be renewed for another 12 years.

This grant is aimed at young researchers living abroad, preferably Brazilian, who have outstanding scientific and technological credentials. The duration is for 12-36 months.

This grant is applicable for researchers and professionals who are willing to stay in Brazil for 1-3 months a year, for a period of 2-3 years to strengthen research and international collaboration.

This grant is for undergraduate, graduate and in some cases, postdoctoral candidates to attend short-term courses (around 2 weeks) on advanced science and technology subjects taught by highly qualified Brazilian and foreign scientists. Chosen students will have the opportunity to present their research findings in poster sessions and engage with participating scientists. Proposals in respond to calls made by FAPESP should be made by the Principal Investigator affiliated with an institution of higher education and research in the state of São Paulo.

This program, jointly funded by FAPESP and NSF, encourages U.S researchers and students to propose and participate in new initiatives to catalyze international collaboration. Proposals can be made for workshops, pilot projects and other activities and could be developed in up to 3 years. Each proposal must have two Principal Investigators, one in São Paulo State and one in the U.S. who will be the central contacts for the management of the project regarding their respective agency.
