Scholarship Programs for Professionals

This year long program includes a series of three seminar meetings, a Fulbright exchange experience and multi-disciplinary team-based research work on designated research themes: Science, Technology and Innovation; Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Energy. Applicants must be from Latin America, Canada, the Caribbean or the United States and must have expertise in one of these programmatic themes.

Five grants are available for academics and professionals (with minimum ten years professional experience) to teach and/or conduct research in any Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) discipline at their host institution in Brazil.

Up to 25 grants are available for academics and professionals (with minimum five years’ experience) to teach and/ or conduct research in the areas of science, technology and innovation. Applications sought in all appropriate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields as well as proposals in areas of public and global health.

Awards grants to U.S academics and professionals to engage in short-term collaborative 2-6 week projects in over 100 countries worldwide. Applications to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster for a 5 year term are open all year around. Eligible institutions who want to host a Fulbright Specialist may submit applications through their local Fulbright Commission or U.S. Embassy.

Agencies Involved: Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES); U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs; Fulbright Program, national Fulbright Commissions or U.S Embassies.

Key Dates: Application dates are open on a rolling basis, all-year round. Completed applications are reviewed in cycles scheduled throughout the year, usually two months after submission.


30 grants are available for U.S graduating college seniors, graduate students and young professionals to study for one academic year in Brazil and over 100 other countries. Applicants must be U.S citizens and must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent before the start of the grant. Priority areas for 2013-2014 are science, technology, agriculture and environment.

This grant enables the participation of experts to implement projects of Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) in small and medium enterprises. The grant duration is for up to 24 months.

This grant enables the participation of experts to implement projects of Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) in small and medium enterprises. The grant duration is up to 90 days unless included within the term of the project.
