Programs in India: Professional

The Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Award provides the opportunity for senior researchers to attend meetings with those from Indian institutions and government agencies in order to familiarize themselves with the scientific approaches of the sciences in India as they relate to program design and research. Program runs for a period of 2 weeks. Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in the field.

The Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships aim to provide U.S. faculty, researchers, and professionals the opportunity to teach, conduct research, or carry out a combination of teaching and research at an Indian institution. All disciplines will be considered, but priority will be given to scholars from the sciences. (See website for a complete list of priority fields.) These fellowships are for four to nine months.

The Critical Language Enhancement Award (CLEA) is an attachment to the U.S. Student Fulbright Program. CLEA supports students for 3-6 months of study abroad to enhance their Fulbright grants. Candidates must be awardees of a U.S. Student Fulbright Program grant which requires the use of the language in training provided by the CLEA.

The Fulbright-Nehru Student Research program invites students looking to enrich professional experience to carry out projects for 9-month periods in India. Candidates must be able to speak Hindi or Urdu, or else complete a one-year language training course prior to entering the program.

The Senior Fellowship provides the opportunity for senior researchers to pursue research careers at academic institutions in India. Candidates must have at least 7-12 years of post-doctoral research experience, and demonstrated ability to lead research groups and projects.

Key Dates: Preliminary application launches July 4, 2014; Preliminary application deadline August 14, 2014; Invited full application deadline December 2014; Selection Committee review March 2015; Interviews for short-listed candidates is in May 2015 for the May 2015 Competition.


The Margdarshi Fellowship provides the opportunity for biomedical scientists to lead and nucleate research programs in India. Candidates must possess a vision with which to lead a group of young scientists in a particular project. Candidates must not reside in India at the time of application, but have the ability to relocate to India if accepted.
