The CIEE High School Abroad Program

The CIEE High School Abroad Program sends US high school graduates to Japan for 6-12 months. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of at least 3.0 and must be between 15-17 years of age. At least two years of Japanese language study is preferable and candidates should be able to pass Level 5 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test or equivalent.

Key Dates: Application deadline is April 1, 2013 for candidates looking to study for Sept-June academic year or for Sept-Jan semester. Deadline is September 1, 2013 for applicants looking to study during the Jan-June semester.

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Gap Year Abroad Program

The CIEE Gap Year Abroad Program sends US high school graduates to Japan for 3-9 months. Awardees are offered the chance to study Japanese and to participate in volunteer efforts such as instruction of English as a second language. Candidates must be high school graduates.

Key Dates: For the 3 month Fall program (Oct-Dec) the application deadline is Aug 15, 2013. For the Fall-Winter 6 month program (Oct-March) and for the Fall-Winter-Spring 9 month program (Oct-June), the application deadline is May 1, 2013.
