Study Abroad: STEM Exchanges, Scholarships, and Fellowships in the United States for Senior Academic/Faculty

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Sciences Foundation (NSF) work together to support PEER Science, a grant program that invites scientists in developing countries to apply for funds to support research and capacity-building activities on topics of importance to USAID and conducted in partnership with their NSF-funded collaborators. Candidates must be based in PEER-eligible countries.

ACS Global Research Experiences, Exchanges and Training (GREET) Program

Program Details: Mentees spend 4-8 weeks engaged in the project at the foreign laboratory, with their mentor participating for a concurrent 2-3 week period. Program provides travel expenses for research results to be presented at an upcoming American Chemical Society National Meeting.

Professor / Visiting Researcher in the U.S

The Professor / Visiting Researcher in the US program annually sponsors up to twenty five Brazilian teachers and researchers to teach classes, conduct research, and development activities of technical and scientific guidance in the US for 3-4 month interims. Candidates must be Brazilian citizens and must have completed doctorates before 2009. Must have 10 years of experience in science and environmental policies, and must be accredited as a teacher in a Graduate program recognized by the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES)

Fight for Sight Research Award

The Fight for Sight Research Award is offered to UK academics for a period of 9-12 months in order to pursue laboratory research toward the prevention of sight loss and treatment. Candidates must be UK citizens and hold or expect to receive a PhD.

Cochran Fellowship Program

Cochran Fellowship Program provides participants from middle-income countries, emerging markets, and emerging democracies with high-quality training to improve their local agricultural systems and strengthen and enhance trade links with the United States. Participants are mid- and senior-level Professionals from both the public and private sectors who are concerned with agricultural trade, agribusiness development, management, policy, and marketing.

Program participation is open to the staff of agribusinesses, government departments, universities, and other agricultural organizations.  In their own countries, applicants may be managers, technicians, scientists, professors, administrators, or policy makers

Key Dates: The Cochran Fellowship Program (CFP) offers short-term training opportunities, most ranging from 1-3 weeks, depending on the objectives of the program.

Scientific Cooperation Exchange Program

The Scientific Cooperation Exchange Program supports international exchanges to promote agricultural development and economic growth by offering opportunities for US teams of up to 5 members to initiate linkages with potential long-term collaborators at Chinese institutions throughout the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Scientific Cooperation Research Program

The USDA’s Scientific Cooperation Research Program supports agriculture professionals focused on improving agricultural productivity, creating sustainable agricultural systems, and building regional or global trade capacity. Researchers are given up to two years to complete an individual project. Proposals may be submitted by international universities or institutions with campuses in the US, or by researchers currently holding positions at US institutions.

CNPq Senior Internship - ESN

The Senior Internship (ESN) Program aims to encourage researchers to develop research projects at foreign institution for a 3-6 month period. Candidates must qualify for placement as a Level 1 Researcher with CNPq, and must agree to a latency period of two years between internship and subsequent occupation

Fulbright Chair in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln

The Fulbright Chair in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln is intended for Brazilian researchers and teachers having completed doctoral degrees before 2008, with 10 years of professional experience in the area qualified. The program brings researchers to Lincoln for a period of 4 months to carry out research projects in the Agricultural Sciences.

The Fulbright Chair in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Austin, Texas is intended for Brazilian researchers and teachers having completed doctoral degrees before 2008, with 10 years of professional experience in the area qualified. The program brings researchers to Austin for a period of 4 months to carry out research projects in the Agricultural Sciences.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program provides grants to Post-doctoral lecturers and researchers for 6-12-month visits to U.S. institutions in order to conduct enrichment seminars. 

Candidates must have completed doctoral degree or equivalent professional training at the time of application and must be permanent residents of the country from which they apply.

All-discipline Scholar Awards

The All-discipline Scholar Awards Program distributes approximately 5 grants each year to academics and professionals from the U.K. in order to undertake lecture or research for a period of 3-10 months. Deafness Research UK Award

The Deafness Research U.K. Award is distributed each year to up to 3 academics or professionals in order to pursue research for a period of 3-12 months into the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing impairment. Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program

The Norman E. Borlaug International Fellowship Program aims to promote food security and economic growth by increasing research to improve agricultural productivity. Fellows receive support for 6-12 weeks of training and research opportunities in order to strengthen agricultural practices through the development of new agricultural technologies. Candidates must be citizens of Borlaug-approved country, and must hold Master's degrees with 2 or more years of practical experience in an university, government, non-profit, or private agricultural research entity.

The FAPESP’s Research Fellowship Abroad (BPE) is intended for scientists with a permanent position in a research institution in State of São Paulo to study abroad for a period of up to 12 months. Candidates must hold a PhD.

Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) Support Program Events Abroad (PAEX)

The CAPES PAEX Program is intended for doctors attending scientific events abroad in order to highlight international visibility of science and technological developments made within their home country. The Program supports these visits by providing funds for 1 month duration. Candidates must hold a PhD degree.
