ACS GCI Chemical Manufacturer’s Roundtable
Launched in June 2010, the mission of the ACS GCI Chemical Manufacturer’s Roundtable is to provide leadership and education in the interpretation and implementation of green chemistry and green engineering principles as applied in the chemical manufacturing industry as well as providing a consistent source of credible, scientifically sound information on the application of the principles to chemical manufacturing industry stakeholders to influence policy, standard setting organizations, and third parties directly relevant to the chemical manufacturing industry.
Four Strategic Priorities
- To identify, communicate and promote consistently green chemistry and green engineering best practices within industry especially with regard to metrics.
- To encourage policy and standard setting organizations to adopt the Roundtable identified best practices.
- To educate external chemical manufacturer stakeholders on best practices and principles.
- To define and communicate opportunities to significantly improve the ability to effectively implement green chemistry and green engineering into the chemical manufacturing industry, recognizing any success could have a global impact on sustainability in the chemical enterprise.
Members include establishments producing basic chemicals and establishments manufacturing products by predominantly chemical processes. Establishments manufacture general classes of products such as basic chemicals and specialty chemical, including acids, alkalis, salts, organic chemicals and polymers to be used in manufacture and formulation.
Membership contributions are restricted for the purpose of meeting the project needs of the Roundtable. Annual contributions range from $1000-$6000 depending on net global sales.
Joining ACS Green Chemistry Institute® Industry Roundtables! The Business Case
By Bogdan Comanita and Julie Manley
Participation in the ACS Green Chemistry Institute® Industry Roundtables provides an excellent opportunity for member companies to keep abreast with the latest developments in the complex stakeholders landscape of green chemistry and green engineering while informing and influencing the policy, regulatory and legislative outcomes at the national level. The structure of the Roundtables, mimicking the vertical structure of the chemical supply chains, provides member companies with unique non-competitive collaboration opportunities such as minimizing R&D costs, learning about the needs of downstream customers or adopting best industry practices in green chemistry.
