Follow The Mole!
What is "Follow The Mole"
Prof. Molenium, the beloved ACS mascot lives on the ACS Network. The "Follow the Mole" project allows you to follow the mascot as he explores the National Meeting in San Francisco. There will be give-aways, location updates, news and other helpful National Meeting related items. When you see him, give him a hug, take a "selfie" and post it. Have some fun!
How it works
During the ACS National Meeting & Exposition Prof. Molenium will appear at various locations and hand out free gifts to attendees. Each day of the conference, Prof. Molenium will announce where he will be on his blog, at least 1 hour before the event. Follow his announcements on the ACS Network, San Francisco homepage, www.acs.org/sanfran2014, Twitter and through our new free mobile app. Show up, take a picture with him, post on your profile and claim a prize (while supplies last). See blog feed and prizes below. Only 1 prize per attendee. If you do not have a smartphone, don't worry, ACS staff can take a photo and post to our facebook event page.

Why are we doing this?
We want to share more of the event, programming and activities that take place during a national meeting on social media. Capturing the energy, ideas and people is a powerful way of advancing science. Engage and support the national meeting through social media. Let's face it, with over 11,000 presentations, the exposition, hundreds of social events and things to do around town, you can't be at all places at once, "Following The Mole" makes it easy to enjoy a birds eye view. If you are using Twitter, tweet using the hashtag #ACSsanfran and your message will appear in the mobile app feed. Promote and share what you are learning and presenting. Give credit and kudos to others. See this great article "Ten Tips for Tweeting at Conferences" by Brian Coxall to learn more about how you can use the power of Twitter.

Be Safe Online
When using social media, think about what you are sharing and who can see it, especially location-based data and contact information. Social networking can be a great way to meet new people with similar interests, but always use caution when arranging in-person meetings with online acquaintances.
