Summary

In 2005 a National Academies Committee, chaired by Norm Augustine, issued the report “Rising Above the Gathering Storm.” In 2007, Mr. Augustine authored a follow up titled, “Is America Falling Off the Flat Earth?” In an address titled after a chapter in the essay, Mr. Augustine discussed America's competitiveness challenges and actions taken to address concerns raised in the "Gathering Storm" report.

The briefing concluded with winning entries from the Task Force on the Future of American Innovation Video Contest recognizing the 50th anniversary of the Soviet launch of Sputnik.
