Nanotechnology: from Theory to Commercialization

Friday, September 26, 2003

Introductory Remarks

The Bush Administration has proposed a major increase in funding for a ten-agency research initiative on nanotechnologies. Congress is working to authorize the transformational R&D program through recently passed legislation, H.R.766 and S.189. Concern has been expressed that other countries have surpassed our efforts and are already commercializing products. This panel will explore how the National Nanotechnology Initiative can support our universities and corporations, particularly through funding basic research, to ensure U.S. leadership in these new markets that might grow to $15 trillion by 2015.
