Nourai Biographical Sketch
Dr. Nourai is the Strategic Technology Consultant in American Electric Power (AEP), one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity. AEP’s nearly 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity and almost 39,000-mile transmission network serves eleven states. Last month, Dr. Nourai accepted a two-year term as Chairman of the Electricity Storage Association’s Board of Directors. During his 30 years of experience in the utility industry, Dr. Nourai received seven U.S. patents for developing techniques to improve the efficiency and performance of power systems. He is a senior member of IEEE and a recipient of the Walter Fee Award from IEEE’s Power Engineering Society for “Professional Contributions.” He championed the deployment of the first megawatt-scale NAS battery in the U.S. in 2006 and is continuing his efforts toward delivering AEP’s goal to deploy 1000 megawatts of advanced energy storage by 2020. He holds a Dr. Eng. degree in electric power engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY).
