Senior Policy Analyst, STEM
National Governors Association Center for Best Practices
Ms. Baber is the senior policy analyst leading the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) work within the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center). On issues of STEM education, Ms. Baber provides ongoing technical assistance to governors and their key policy staff. Since joining the NGA Center, Ms. Baber expanded the types of supports provided to states. She has also increased the size of the NGA Center STEM Network from six to thirty-three states. Ms. Baber came to the NGA Center from the Denver-based Education Commission of the States (ECS), where she gained a breadth and depth of experience in state-level education policy issues with a focus on teacher quality and leadership. Before joining ECS, she managed a project for the National Science Foundation funded STEM Colorado program at the University of Colorado, focusing on recruiting and training talented STEM undergraduates to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers. Ms. Baber’s professional expertise is grounded in technical STEM applications through her degree in astrophysics from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
