The Policy Fellowship Experience

See How Fellows Make an Impact

ACS Public Policy Fellows use their energy and expertise to make a difference in D.C., whether on Capitol Hill or at ACS headquarters.

Fellows gain valuable experience and make key contributions to their host offices.

Here are just some of the exciting things recent ACS Congressional and Science Policy Fellows have done:

  • Drafted important pieces of legislation to combat the effects of climate change, advance clean technologies, and fund federal science  programs
  • Authored memos, statements, and hearing questions for members of Congress
  • Staffed members of Congress during hearings and floor debates
  • Shared their experiences with the policy process with audiences at ACS biannual meetings
  • Collaborated with technical experts to provide information about the dangers of chemical weapons to international stakeholders
  • Worked with ACS members to develop policy positions on innovation, S&T funding, and inclusiveness
  • Promoted the contributions of chemistry through webinars and social media
  • Issues covered include federal funding for scientific research, science education, energy and environment, and health policy

Fellows may be entry-level PhDs or experienced professionals from academia, industry, or non-profits.
