Media invited to ACS teleconference on success strategies in chemistry

WASHINGTON, Jan. 5, 2009 — News media covering the chemical sciences are invited to join an American Chemical Society (ACS) Careers Industry Forum teleconference on the tools necessary for success within the field of chemistry and related sciences.

Scheduled for 2 – 3 p.m. ET on Jan. 8 the teleconference will feature ACS President Thomas H. Lane, Ph.D. The topic is “Mastering the Necessary Skills for the Present and for the Future.” Lane is the Director of the Global Science and Technology Outreach and also Senior Research Scientist at the Dow Corning Corporation. With more than 33 years of research experience in organosilicon chemistry, he has contributed to the areas of interfacial science, scientific computing, and the biotechnology of silicon.

The series of teleconferences is scheduled monthly into 2009, according to Liane Gould, manager of career services for ACS, which has more than 160,000 members. There will be a 30-minute discussion with Lane followed by a 25-minute Q & A session.

News media can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance at the ACS Careers website, which also provides information about future forums.
