Media invited to ACS Webinar on financing tips for start-ups and small businesses

WASHINGTON, July 14, 2009 — News media covering chemical sciences, small business and entrepreneurships are invited to join an American Chemical Society (ACS) Small & Medium Business Webinar on opportunities for creating small business ventures for professionals, scientists and entrepreneurs.

Scheduled for Thursday, July 23, 2 – 3 p.m. Eastern Time, the webinar will feature Kenneth Polk, who joined ACS in October 2007 as the Business Head of TechCatalyst, where he leads the unit’s efforts to commercialize chemistry and allied science-based technologies. In his career, Polk has created business opportunities for seed and early-stage companies involving chemical processes, medical devices, diagnostics and therapeutics.

The topic for the webinar is “Avoiding financing pitfalls for start-ups and small business.” Polk will share his insight on starting new business ventures, opportunities for small business to acquire financing and the effects on funding from the recent economic downturn.

The ACS Small & Medium Business Webinar Series is scheduled monthly into 2009 to address current topics of interest to entrepreneurs and small- to medium-sized businesses in the chemical/biopharma enterprise. There will be a 30-minute presentation with Polk followed by a 25-minute Q & A session.

News media can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance at the ACS Industry Member Program website, which also provides information about future speakers. Additional information about upcoming speakers.
