Save the date: American Chemical Society National Meeting, Sept. 8-12, 2013, in Indianapolis
WASHINGTON, May 21, 2013 — The American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society, invites news media coverage of its 246th National Meeting & Exposition, September 8-12, 2013, in Indianapolis, Ind. It will take place at the Indiana Convention Center and at area hotels.
With more than 7,100 presentations on new discoveries that span science’s horizons — from astronomy to zoology ― the meeting will offer print, broadcast and online journalists a rich assortment of spot news and feature possibilities. The topics include food and nutrition, medicine, health, energy, the environment and other fields where chemistry plays a central role. Some of those presentations will connect with the meeting’s theme, “Chemistry in Motion.”
The theme presentations will showcase contemporary research and future technologies likely to transform the transportation industry in the 21st century. Topics range from biofuels and alternative energy to lightweight materials and new ways of reducing the effects of friction, which impacts fuel economy.
The ACS Office of Public Affairs will operate a press center in the convention center. It will include a press conference room and a news media workroom fully staffed to assist in arranging interviews. The press center will have wireless Internet access, telephones, computers, photocopy and fax services, and refreshments.
Embargoed copies of press releases, non-technical summaries of newsworthy presentations and a press conference schedule will be available in August. Reporters planning to cover the meeting from their home bases will have access to the press conferences over the Internet in ACS’ popular “Live Chat” format.
