Submitting Undergraduate Abstracts

As an undergraduate student in the chemical sciences, you have many options for presenting at an ACS meeting. Here your will find instructions on how to submit an abstract as an undergraduate and common sessions or symposia for undergraduate students.

How to Submit an Abstract

  1. Go to meeting abstracts system (MAPS): maps.acs.org 
  2. Select the meeting you plan to attend
  3. Log in using your ACS ID and password
  4. Select Submission
  5. Click Create New Submission
  6. Complete the abstract form with all relevant information. Be sure to read all instructions carefully.

Session Options for Undergraduates

  • Undergraduate Research Poster Session

    Exclusively for undergraduate students to present their research in any discipline

    Required Sections for Abstract Submissions

    • Program Area: Division of Chemical Education (CHED)
    • Presentation Type: Poster Only or Poster Preferred
    • Symposium: Undergraduate Research Posters: [research subdivision]. 
      Note
      : The Chemical Education research subdivision is for abstracts related to the teaching and learning of chemistry and other pedagogies.
    • Authors: Need to indicate ALL authors for research and you must have at least one advisor or principal investigator listed.
    • Presenters: Select the checkbox for all students who will be present at the poster
  • Undergraduate Research Oral Session*

    Oral presentations in a variety of disciplines

    We recommend that you receive the endorsement of your research advisor before selecting an oral presentation.

    Required Sections for Abstract Submissions

    • Program Area: Division of Chemical Education (CHED)
    • Presentation Type: Oral Preferred
    • Symposium: Undergraduate Research Papers- Oral
    • Authors: Need to indicate ALL authors for research including advisor or principal investigator

    *Limited slots available. If not selected to present in this session, then your abstract will default to the Undergraduate Research Poster Session

  • Successful Student Chapters

    Session within the Sci-Mix poster session for ACS Student Chapters to present their chapter activities

    Required Sections for Abstract Submissions

    • Program Area: Division of Chemical Education (CHED)
    • Presentation Type: Poster Only
    • Consider for Sci-Mix: Yes
    • Symposium: Successful Student Chapters- Poster
    • Authors: Need to indicate ALL authors including your chapter’s faculty advisor
    • Presenters: Select the checkbox for all students who will be present at the poster
  • Other Sessions

    Opportunities may be available for undergraduates to present in oral or poster sessions within other divisions. If you submit to a division other than CHED, you may be moved into the undergraduate poster session. Check with the program chair of the division you want to join.
