Meet the Panelists

Dana Ferraris, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry, McDaniel College
Dr. Ferraris received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in 1999 and his M.B.A. from Carey Business School in 2009. His efforts in the pharmaceutical industry resulted in the recent FDA approval of Cedazuridine to treat MDS. Dr. Ferraris is currently at McDaniel College as the Chair of the Chemistry Department. Dr. Ferraris has extensive drug discovery experience in both oncology and CNS disorders both of which are part of his undergraduate research efforts. Since 2012, he has served as a councilor for the Maryland local section, Member of the Committee on Economic and Professional Affairs (CEPA), and most recently a member of the Budget and Finance Committee.

Natalie LaFranzo, Ph.D.
VP Market Development, CoFactor Genomics
Natalie LaFranzo received her BS in Chemistry from Bradley University in 2007, and her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis in 2013. Natalie joined Cofactor Genomics in 2013, as a Project Scientist supporting customized experimental solutions for both DNA and RNA applications. She then transitioned to Horizon Discovery’s Diagnostics Division to enable the development of genomic reference standards, before returning to Cofactor in 2016. Natalie now supports Cofactor’s clinical collaborations, outreach efforts, and marketing strategy as the VP of Market Development, with the goal of closing the precision medicine gap through Predictive Immune Modeling. As a younger chemist with a non-academic career path, Natalie is passionate about helping the ACS evolve to reflect the changing face of chemistry, and creating a more inclusive environment where all feel welcome.

Kristin Nuzzio, Ph.D.
Group Leader, PPG
Kristin Nuzzio is a Group Leader at PPG in Pittsburgh, PA, where she supervises a team of researchers investigating new chemistries for coating formulations. She began her career in industry at PPG in 2015 as a Research Chemist in the analytical department focusing on characterization of aerospace and industrial coatings. Kristin received a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also holds a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Delaware. Kristin is currently serving as the Chair of the American Chemical Society Younger Chemists Committee.
