The Committee is responsible for:

  • Improving public understanding of the chemical sciences’ role in the nation’s economy, and, especially, of chemistry’s vital role in many national policy issues.
  • Striving for public policies consistent with current chemical knowledge.
  • Pursuing public policies that advance both chemistry and the other sciences.
  • Approving the Society’s National Historic Chemical Landmark designations, upon recommendation by the Committee’s National Historic Chemical Landmarks subcommittee.
  • Monitor and act on scientific mobility and human rights cases involving chemistry related scientists, consistent with Board criteria and procedures.
