As a partner at Ridout & Maybee LLP, Kazim provides strategic guidance and advice to clients, including helping them develop and manage their intellectual property portfolios. In addition, he assists his clients in protecting their intellectual property locally and internationally, notably in the areas of life sciences and mechanical devices, with emphasis in chemistry, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, oil and gas, cleantech and energy. In particular, his practice focuses on preparation and prosecution of patent applications within Canada and internationally.
Further, Kazim enjoys teaching and frequently gives presentation on intellectual property at conferences and different companies. He is also the current Chair of the Chemical Institute of Canada, Toronto section, which allows him to be involved with the chemical and chemical engineering industries. Moreover, he enjoys playing tennis and helps organize community tennis events for all ages and skill levels.
Prior to his legal career, after finishing his Ph.D., he went on as a senior research chemist at a major chemical company where he was responsible for oligonucleotide and other active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) projects from R&D to manufacturing, including process validation and pre-approval inspection (PAI) preparation from regulatory bodies.
