Cynthia Fuhrmann

Cynthia Fuhrmann, Ph.D., is Assistant Dean of Career & Professional Development in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Associate Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Pharmacology at UMass Medical School (UMMS).  Trained as a chemist/structural biologist, Fuhrmann has 15 years of experience directing programs and curricula in professional development for early-career scientists, first at UCSF and then at UMMS. She co-authored myIDP, an interactive career-planning website used by more than 200,000 scientists worldwide, and is active in graduate education innovation, including as co-PI of the I3IDP project in collaboration with the American Chemical Society. Her engagement in national projects has informed her role leading an emerging, cross-stakeholder national initiative—Professional Development Hub--to further advance PhD career development in the sciences.
