Jon Lai

Jon Lai is Professor of Biochemistry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. His group utilizes protein and antibody engineering strategies to test novel immunotherapeutic and vaccine concepts with a particular focus on viral diseases. Dr. Lai was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He received in B. Sc. Hons. in Biochemistry at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada, then obtained a Ph. D. in Chemistry and Biophysics at the University of Wisconsin - Madison working with Prof. Samuel Gellman on peptide chemistry. He was a Helen Hay Whitney post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School in Biological Chemistry with Profs. Christopher Walsh and Stephen Harrison, where he became interested in virus glycoprotein structure and recognition by antibodies. He started his independent career in 2007 at Einstein. He received the Arnold and Mabel Young Investigator Award in 2009, and the Irma T. Hirschl/Monique Weill-Caulier Career Scientist Award in 2015.
