Dr. Anirban Mahapatra is Assistant Director and Publisher at the American Chemical Society (ACS), where he has been since 2007. His key accomplishments include the launch of ACS Chemical Neuroscience, ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters, ACS Synthetic Biology, and ACS Infectious Diseases. Under his direction, his team launched ACS Applied Bio Materials, ACS Applied Electronic Materials, ACS Applied Energy Materials, ACS Applied Nano Materials, ACS Applied Polymer Materials, and ACS Materials Letters. He is currently responsible for the strategic development and management of ACS journals spanning physical, materials, and biological chemistry. He is particularly fascinated by the changing landscape of how scientific information is disseminated globally.
Dr. Mahapatra holds BSc (Honours) and MSc degrees from Midnapore College and Vidyasagar University, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. at The Ohio State University where he contributed to the understanding of the encoding of the amino acid, pyrrolysine, a natural expansion of the genetic code in certain organisms.
