Admir Masic is the Esther and Harold E. Edgerton Career Development Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and founder of the MIT Refugee Action Hub (MIT ReACT). In his research, he is interested in understanding the structural and mechanical characteristics of complex biological and archaeological materials. His group explores ancient technologies as a source of inspiration for the development of a new generation of more durable and sustainable building materials.
A former Bosnian refugee, Professor Masic is the faculty founder and director of MIT ReACT, an initiative launched in May 2017 when the challenge of refugee education was presented at MIT SOLVE. MIT ReACT identifies aggregates and cultivates ideas, solutions, and best practices that allow talented refugees and forcibly displaced populations worldwide to access learning resources and professional development opportunities.
