Joseph Moran is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, France. He completed his Ph.D. in organic chemistry with André M. Beauchemin at the University of Ottawa in 2009. Following his graduate studies, he spent six months working in chemical biology at NRC Canada with John P. Pezacki followed by two years as a postdoctoral fellow in transition metal catalysis with Michael J. Krische at the University of Texas, Austin. He joined the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering (ISIS) as an assistant professor in 2012 and was promoted to professor in September 2018. His research uses concepts from systems and supramolecular chemistry to discover catalysts for organic synthesis and for the chemical origins of life. He is a member of C&EN’s Talented 12 (2018) and has received the SCF Jean Normant Prize (2018), the Guy Ourisson Prize (2017) and the ERC Starting Grant (2015), among other awards.
