Michel Philippe joined L’Oréal in 1984 and is currently a Senior Research Associate and Sustainable Innovation Manager in the International Raw Material Department. During his time there, he has worked in the following areas:
- Eco-design of green ingredients based on chemistry and biocatalysis of monosaccharides, polysaccharides and lipids: mainly, amphiphilic derivatives, surfactants and lipids (sphingolipids and ceramides)
- Participation in the design of RM launched on the market by L’OREAL (ceramides, glycosyl derivatives) Development of new green processes using renewable raw materials from plant, for instance, participation in the development of the C-Glycosylation process (amphiphilic ingredients)
- Participation in the Implementation of green indicators (Renewable Raw materials, Naturalness Index, Green Chemistry pillars, 14C assessment)
- Participation in the drafting of the new ISO 16128 standard on Natural & Organic ingredients and formula in Cosmetics
Michel studied biochemistry and organic chemistry and received a Ph. D. in 1984 which focused on new sugar derivatives in the field of antibacterial compounds and immuno-modulators.
