Robert J. Koch
Robert J. Koch is a partner resident in Milbank’s Washington, DC and Munich, Germany office and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, where he specializes in Intellectual Property matters. Mr. Koch is recognized as one of the nation’s leading biotech and pharmaceutical patent attorneys and is known for his leadership in a number of the landmark cases in the field. He has more than 40 years of experience in patent and other complex Intellectual Property litigation, including several landmark cases of pioneering biotechnology breakthroughs, revolutionary medical devices, and blockbuster pharmaceuticals. Mr. Koch began his career as a professional chemist prior to becoming a patent examiner in the high polymer arts at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He served as a scientific adviser on intellectual property issues at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany during the formation of the European Patent Convention. Mr. Koch received a B.S. in Professional Chemistry in 1968 from the University of Detroit and a J.D. in 1973 from the Catholic University of America.
