Naresh Sunkara, Ph.D. is the CEO of a startup company, Nosocom Solutions Inc., which develops technologies to reduce Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) in hospitals. He is a Special Advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Research for postdoc affairs at the University of California, Berkeley. Previously, he was a postdoctoral scientist at UC Berkeley developing novel technologies for delivery of RNAi for treating viral infections. During his time at Berkeley, Naresh founded and chaired the Berkeley Postdoctoral Entrepreneurship Program (BPEP). Since then, he has been instrumental in launching programs like the Berkeley Science Fellows Program, female postdoc mentoring program amongst others.
He is leading the student and postdoc working group for defining and strengthening entrepreneurship ecosystem at UC Berkeley, an effort launched by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Over the last five years, Naresh has worked closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the Intellectual Property and Industry Alliances Office (IPIRA) at UC Berkeley as well as with their counterparts at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Naresh has been advising several postdocs/grad students aspiring to translate their research to startups at UC Berkeley.
