Susanna Widicus Weaver
Susanna Widicus Weaver received her B. S. in Chemistry with research honors from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2000, and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 2005. She was a postdoctoral scholar in Chemistry and Astronomy at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before she became a faculty member at Emory in 2008. Her research is in the emerging field of pre-biotic astrochemistry where she investigates the chemical mechanisms in space that lead to the development of biological systems. Her research draws from the forefronts of laboratory spectroscopy, observational astronomy, and chemical modeling to elucidate the mechanisms driving interstellar chemistry and the pathways for the formation of life throughout the universe.
