Being A Successful Scientist: Lessons in Self-Fulfillment

April 27, 2017 @ 2:00pm ET

A woman giving two thumbs up

Failed experiments, the pressure to publish, fighting for grant money; sometimes happiness and research seem downright immiscible. Join frequent contributor Darren Griffin from the University of Kent as he discusses how to find your base in the sometimes acidic reality of science. In this sequel to his first broadcast "10 Commandments of Being a Successful Scientist," Darren will concentrate on self-fulfillment and draw on inspiration outside of laboratory textbooks with insight from British DJs, Australian comedians and renaissance artists.

What You Will Learn

  • Life has no “meaning” - only liberal artists waste their time looking for it.  Dedicate your life to the pursuit of short and medium term goals
  • Don’t seek happiness - seek to make others happy
  • Don’t imagine that art and science are mutually exclusive
