Free Online Course: Foundations of Chemical Safety and Risk Management for Chemistry Students©

This online, self-paced course offers education on chemical safety concepts. The core course is intended for the undergraduate students who have completed two semesters of general chemistry  and one semester of organic chemistry, including laboratories. The course also includes enrichment content that provides additional information related to the core course. This content is intended for the advanced learner.

The total time needed to complete the course (without the enrichment material) is expected to be about 15 hours. Successful students who complete all 16 units and the final course assessment will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Participants will learn to:

  • Describe the components and tools of a strong safety culture;
  • Apply the principles of RAMP to laboratory operations;
  • Identify methods to minimize hazards and risks in the laboratory, and
  • Outline processes needed to plan for emergencies.
