Which Students are right for the Bridge Program?

The ACS Bridge Program is appropriate for undergraduate students in the chemical sciences who will contribute to the diversity of the chemical sciences, are interested in research, and would benefit from additional preparation before applying to Ph.D. programs in the chemical sciences.

The program provides research experiences, advanced coursework, mentoring, and coaching to prepare a graduate school application. The program also partners with doctoral-granting institutions to provide transitional support once students begin doctoral studies.

How can departments benefit from the ACS Bridge Program?

We encourage graduate programs to join the Bridge Program in any or all of the following categories:

Bridge Sites: Through a Request for Proposal (RFP), institutions are invited to apply to become Bridge Sites, where they work to assist talented UR students by providing an intellectual and cultural transition between undergraduate and graduate environments. During the 1-2 year Bridge Experience, depending on the model an institution proposed, institutions provide the students with research experiences, advanced coursework, mentoring, and coaching to prepare a graduate school application.

We are no longer accepting applications for Bridge Sites.

Partners: After completing a Bridge Experience, students will need to find an appropriate graduate program to continue their studies, and therefore need a smooth transition where they continue to receive mentoring and support, especially in the first year. Institutions that will ensure these conditions and have a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students and supporting them as graduate scholars are encouraged to apply to become a Partner.
