Debunking the “Chemicals Are Evil” Myth

A Pulitzer Prize–winning science writer, exasperated by products proclaimed to be “chemical-free”, explores the dangers of chemophobia. She writes in the Los Angeles Times that some chemicals are beneficial, and others are harmful; but everything (and everyone) ultimately consists of chemicals. She also decries the notions that all “natural” substances are “safe”, and all synthetic chemicals are hazardous.
