HFSP Cross-Disciplinary Fellowship

These fellowships are open to applicants with a PhD from outside the life sciences with limited exposure to biology in their previous training but who seek to propose a significant departure from their past research. The fellowships are awarded for 3 years to 45 young post-doctoral scientists each year, seeking research training abroad. Candidates must hold PhDs and must not have already worked at the host laboratory longer than 12 months.

HFSP Long-term Fellowships

These fellowships are open to applicants with a PhD in a biological discipline who seek to embark on a new project in a different field of the life sciences. The fellowships are awarded for 3 years to 45 young post-doctoral scientists each year, seeking research training abroad. Candidates must hold PhDs and must not have already worked at the host laboratory longer than 12 months.

UNESCO-L'OREAL International Fellowships Programme for Young Women in Life Sciences

15 awards are given annually to young female scientists to conduct training and research at laboratories overseas for one year. Candidates must be no older than 35 and must be studying at the doctoral or post-doctoral level in one or allied fields of life sciences including biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, agriculture, medicine, pharmacy and physiology. Applications must be endorsed by The National Commission. Direct applications not accepted.

Chrétien International Research Grants

These grants are aimed at furthering collaborative projects in observational astronomy and are open to astronomers globally. Projects must emphasize on long-term visits and international collaboration. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent.

Agencies Involved: American Astronomical Society

Key Dates: The application deadline is April 1 each year.


Whitaker International Scholars Program

The Whitaker International Scholars Program sends young biomedical engineers abroad for a period of 6-24 months to conduct research or pursue coursework or internships. Candidates must have a PhD (awarded within past 3 years) or be awarded the PhD before beginning the grant.

Agencies Involved: The Whitaker Foundation and the Institute of International Education (IIE)

Key Dates: Applications must be completed and submitted electronically by the 3rd Monday in January.


Short-term Scientist Exchange Program

Candidates applying for this program must have at least 3 years postdoctoral experience in cancer research and must possess an invitation from a qualified sponsor. Research visits can vary from one week to six months in duration. This program promotes collaborative research between US and foreign scientists from developing countries.
