Science and Technology Information
The Supreme Council for Science and Technology (SCST) is the highest ranking science, technology and innovation policy-making body in Turkey chaired by the Prime Minister with the decision-making power for national S&T and innovation policy.
The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) is the main body responsible for organizing research and development activities on the national level in Turkey. TÜBİTAK acts as an advisory agency to the Turkish Government on science and research issues, and is the secretariat of the SCST. The council is headquartered in Ankara and coordinates basic and applied research and development, acting on proposed policies by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA).
Turkey has more than 60 research institutes and organizations, and has joint partnerships with several other countries for scientific endeavors.
The Eurydice Network, within the Education, Audiovisual & Cultural Executive Agency of the European Commission provides information on and analyses of European education systems and policies. According to their overview, the Ministry of National Education (known also as MoNE) conducts educational activities on a central level in the Republic of Turkey. The levels of education in Turkey are:
- Pre-School: carried out by kindergartens.
- Primary and Lower Secondary: consists of eight years of compulsory education.
- Upper Secondary: is not compulsory, but the vast majority of the population participates and has different options such as vocational and art schools.
- Higher Education: is provided by state and private universities.
There are two main types of visas in Turkey:
- Entry visa (single entry, multiple entry and entry with special annotations)
- Transit visa (single and double transit)
Single entry visa is valid for one year and allows its holder, depending on the nationality and passport type, to stay in Turkey up to three months and to visit the country only one time. Multiple entry visa is valid for up to five years and allows its holder to make multiple visits and, depending on the nationality and passport type he/she can stay one to three months each time he/she enters into Turkey.
