Fellowship Programs for Graduate Students

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Sciences Foundation (NSF) work together to support PEER Science, a grant program that invites scientists in developing countries to apply for funds to support research and capacity-building activities on topics of importance to USAID and conducted in partnership with their NSF-funded collaborators. Candidates must be based in PEER-eligible countries.

ACS Global Research Experiences, Exchanges and Training (GREET) Program

Mentees spend 4-8 weeks engaged in the project at the foreign laboratory, with their mentor participating for a concurrent 2-3 week period. Program provides travel expenses for research results to be presented at the American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in Dallas, TX, being held March 16-20, 2014.

Biomedical Sciences Exchange Program (BMEP)

The Biomedical Sciences Exchange Program (BMEP) aims to maintain biomedical scientific and educational exchange in between North America and Europe. Candidates must be graduate students of biomedicine at the graduate and post-doctoral level.

CNPq PhD Sandwich - SWE

The PhD Sandwich (SWE) program allows Graduate students enrolled in programs recognized by CAPES to conduct research for periods of 3-12 months (not to exceed 48 months) toward the completion of their theses.

IAESTE Internship Placement Program

The IAESTE Internship Placement Program provides students with training and employers with trainees for long- or short-term stays. Length of stay can range from 8-12 weeks (summer placement) to longer stays during the academic year. Candidates must be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs between the ages of 19-30. Applications must be submitted through IAESTE country offices

Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program brings citizens of other countries to the United States for a minimum one year Masters or PhD level study. Candidates must have completed doctoral degree or equivalent professional training by the time of application, and must be permanent residents of the country from which they apply.

Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program

The Norman E. Borlaug International Fellowship Program aims to promote food security and economic growth by increasing research to improve agricultural productivity. Fellows receive support for 6-12 weeks of training and research opportunities in order to strengthen agricultural practices through the development of new agricultural technologies. Candidates must be citizens of Borlaug-approved country, and must hold Master's degrees with 2 or more years of practical experience in an university, government, non-profit, or private agricultural research entity.

Research Internships Abroad

This program supports short- and medium-term research internships abroad for recipients of fellowships provided by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). Candidates must have an ongoing fellowship awarded by FAPESP in the CI, MS, DD, DR, PD modalities. Candidates must be proficient in the language of the country where the research will be developed or in English. Specific requirements are listed as follows: Candidates for the Master’s (BEPE-MS), Masters Doctorate (BEPE-DR), and Honors Doctorate (BEPE-DD), must be pursuing research projects at the graduate student level. Funding for all programs is available for up to one year.

UNESCO-L'OREAL International Fellowships Programme for Young Women in Life Sciences

The UNESCO-L'OREAL International Fellowships Programme is given to 15 women annually with the intent to exemplify the belief in supporting young female scientists. Winners are given the opportunity to conduct training and research conducive to on-going research projects at laboratories overseas for one year. Candidates must be no older than 35 and must be studying at the doctoral or post-doctoral level in one of the following fields: life sciences including biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, agriculture, medicine, pharmacy and physiology. Applications must be endorsed by The National Commission. Direct applications not accepted.

Scholarships for Graduate Students

Alistair Cooke Journalism Award

The Alistair Cooke Journalism Award is given to one graduate student per year seeking a Master's in Journalism. The winner of the award is provided funding for 1 year study abroad. Candidate must be a U.K. citizen and hold or expect to obtain a minimum level of 2:1 honors.

All-Discipline Post-graduate Student Awards

The All-Discipline Post-graduate student Program is offered to approximately 30 UK citizens each year for the first year of post-graduate or doctoral study, or for 'special student research' awards in the US. Candidates must be U.K. citizens who hold or expect a minimum level of 2:1 honors.

Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) Full PhD Abroad

The CAPES Full PhD Abroad program aims to provide scholarships for Brazilian Master’s and PhD graduate student candidates for up to 4 years of training and research abroad.

Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) Scholarship Program Doctoral Sandwich Abroad (PDSE)

The CAPES PDSE is a scholarships program distributed to up to 3 students annually, and received over a 4-12-month period. The scholarship supports 12 months of study in the form of doctoral sandwich programs. Candidates must be Brazilian citizens, and must be enrolled in Graduate school at the time of applying

Fight for Sight Research Award

The Fight for Sight Research Award is offered to UK academics for a period of 9-12 months in order to pursue laboratory research toward the prevention of sight loss and treatment. Candidates must be UK citizens and hold or expect to receive a PhD.

Elsevier Bibliometric Analysis Award

The Elsevier Bibliometric Analysis Award is offered to one U.K. citizen per year for the first year of his/her Post-graduate study in any field requiring bibliometric analysis. Candidate must be a U.K. citizen and hold or expect to obtain a minimum level of 2:1 honors.

Fulbright Doctorate in Science, Technology and Engineering

The Fulbright Commission has opened registration Doctoral Scholarship Programs in Science and Technology. The award is distributed to 40 candidates annually, the top 3 of whom will be chosen to participate in an international competition. Winners have access to scholarship funds for up to 36 months. Candidates must be Brazilian residents having completed Graduate studies before August 2012.

HAESF Graduate Scholarship

The HAESF Graduate Scholarship Program provides Hungarian Graduate students the ability to pursue terminal designation degrees that lead to professional occupations, or for professional, post-Graduate, non-degree, certificate-granting programs at accredited American universities and colleges or certificate-granting institutions.

Faculty for the Future Grant

The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future program awards fellowships to women from developing economies to pursue PhD or post-doctoral studies in scientific fields at universities abroad. Candidates must be female citizens of a developing countries preparing for a PhD, or Post-doctoral study.

International Visitor Program

The International Visitor Program invites international officials, researchers, specialists and students to participate in tours, meetings, conferences, workshops, ongoing research projects, and technical consultations with the US Forest Service.

Internship USA and Professional Career Training USA

The CIEE Internship USA Program and Professional Career Training USA Program provide students at the Undergraduate, Graduate, and Professional level with the ability to expand their scientific expertise at institutions in the US. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, and registered as a full-time student.

The HAESF Professional Internship Program provides Hungarian scientists the ability to participate in internships for periods of 6-12 months at American companies.

HAESF's Executive Education program

The HAESF's Executive Education program provide Hungarian students at the graduate and professional level the ability to pursue educational programs in business, public administration, non-profit organizations and academia abroad for periods of 3-12 months at Harvard University. Candidates should hold a master's degree, and have at least 4 years professional experience.

Smithsonian Institution Molecular Evolution Fellowship Program

The Smithsonian Fellowship Program offers post-doctoral academics the opportunity to conduct research at the Smithsonian Institute for a period of 12-24 months. Applicants must have completed or be near completion of their PhD.
