The U.S. Recognizing 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry

United States Senate

By unanimous consent, the U.S. Senate adopted a resolution on September 26, 2011, designating 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry!

Minnesota House

The Minnesota House of Representatives passed a bi-partisan resolution on March 3, 2011, recognizing 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry (IYC). ACS delegation attended the event.

Tennessee House

Ohio General Assembly

Through the efforts of the ACS Ohio Government Affairs Committee, the Ohio House and Senate have joined state leaders supporting the International Year of Chemistry with formal resolutions. House Resolution 51, sponsored by Representative Matt Huffman (R), passed in the lower chamber on March 22 and Senate Resolution 51, sponsored by Senator Charleta Tavares (D), passed the upper chamber on April 4.

Tennessee House

Members of the House chamber of the Tennessee Legislature passed a Resolution honoring the International Year of Chemistry (IYC). In addition the Tennessee Governor passed a partner Governor’s executive resolution honoring IYC. Members of ACS’ Tennessee Government Affairs committee (TN-GAC) worked in partnership with Resolution sponsor Representative Ragan (R), and Governor Bill Haslam (R). The TN-GAC issued a press release concerning IYC, which was picked up by several media outlets nationwide. 2010 ACS President Joe Francisco was invited to participate in a state legislative summit with the Tennessee Government Affairs Committee. Dr. Francisco met with the House sponsor for the International Year of Chemistry Resolution, Rep. Ragan (R), and was invited to speak on the house floor regarding the importance of the resolution.
