Phil Kym is Executive Director of Drug Discovery Science & Technology and Head of the Medicinal Chemistry Leadership Team at AbbVie. In his career at Abbott/AbbVie, Phil’s team has contributed to clinical candidate selection in the Neuroscience, Immunology, Oncology, Virology, Metabolic Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, and Pain therapeutic areas and is an inventor of Foslevodopa/Foscarbidopa subcutaneous continuous infusion therapy for Parkinson’s Disease. Phil received a BA in Chemistry from Goshen College, a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin before starting his career at Abbott/AbbVie in 1996. Phil has served on the ACS MEDI Long Range Planning Committee (2018-2020), and is currently a member of the organizing committee for the 2022 National Medicinal Chemistry Symposium, and will be the Chair of the 2023 Gordon Research Conference on Natural Products and Bioactive Compounds.
