Recommendations for Holding Gatherings

Subject to Change

To promote the safety of everyone at the event, ACS will follow the guidance and requirements of the CDC, State of California, California Department of Public Health (CDPH), San Diego Convention Center (SDCC) and other local regulations regarding COVID safety practices.

ACS reserves the right change its practices from time-to-time and as many times as required by the latest federal, state, or local medical directives to account for changes in COVID-19 health protocols or those required to protect against its variant strains. These recommendations may change from time-to-time until the start of and during ACS Spring 2022. 

Vaccination Requirements:

  • ACS Spring 2022 will be a Vaccination Required meeting for all attendees, exhibitors, vendors, and ACS staff who seek to gain access to the in-person meeting and/or events in San Diego, CA. All individuals will need to be fully vaccinated by March 6, 2022, 14 days from the start of Spring 2022.
  • This guidance applies to COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use and for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (i.e., Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen COVID-19 vaccines), and COVID-19 vaccines authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO) (i.e. Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen, Oxford/AstraZeneca, Covishield, Covaxin, Sinopharm/BBIBP-CorV, and Sinovac/CoronaVac), on or before February 15, 2022. The full list of vaccines with final WHO EUL/PQ evaluation status is available the World Health OrganizationACS may expand the list of vaccines, provide more specific guidance regarding mixed vaccination dosing, and/or provide additional guidance regarding boosters as prevailing public health guidance evolves. Watch this space for additional details as we get closer to ACS Spring 2022.
  • According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), people are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 two weeks after they have received the second dose in a two-dose series (Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna), or two weeks after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson’s/Janssen).

Mask Requirements:

  • ACS is requiring that all ACS Spring 2022 attendees, exhibitors, vendors, and ACS staff wear a face mask while in the San Diego Convention Center, or any facility hosting an ACS-sponsored event or meeting, or while attending an ACS hosted/sponsored events or meetings.
  • An acceptable “mask” is made of at least 2 layers of breathable fabric or hospital grade material, fully covers the nose, nostrils, mouth and fits firmly under the chin, and fits snugly, but comfortably against the side of the face.

Attendee Safety at Gatherings – On Premises

When gathering within the premises, all attendees must where their badge to show proof of vaccination before admittance. Once admitted, it is recommended that attendees also:

  • practice physical distancing when feasible, and possible i.e., stay at least six (6) feet from other people;
  • wear an acceptable face mask;
  • practice good hygiene and sanitation; and
  • refrain from greeting others with handshaking, hugging, or other unnecessary person-to-person contact.

When gathering within the premises, attendees are REQUIRED to:

  • immediately notify on-site ACS staff if any signs of COVID-19 like symptoms, including but not limited to fever, coughing or shortness of breath, are present after entering the Premises. If any of these or other COVID-19 related symptoms present, you should remove yourself from close proximity of physical contact with others, wear a mask, and seek medical attention immediately.

Attendees SHOULD NOT ATTEND IF

  • individual is exhibiting any signs of COVID-19 like symptoms; including but not limited to fever, coughing or shortness of breath;
  • individual has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 10 days from the start of ACS Spring 2022 meeting or event;
  • individual has had contact with a person that has or is suspected of having COVID-19 within fourteen (14) days from the start of ACS Spring 2022 and have not completed a quarantine protocol.

Attendee Safety at Gatherings - OFF-Premises

When gathering at external venues, private event facilities, reception venues, restaurants, and bars, attendees should:

  • comply with the establishment’s COVID-19 protocols for such gatherings then in place;
  • consider wearing an acceptable mask though fully vaccinated whenever in a facility attending an ACS-sponsored event or meeting.
  • follow the CDC, State of California, and California Department of Public Health and County of San Diego’s latest guidance and requirements, including the requirement whether vaccinated or unvaccinated to: a) wear masks when indoor at public spaces, b) physical distance, with at least six (6) feet of physical separation, and c) practice good hygiene and sanitation.
