Opportunities and Challenges in Using Advanced 21st Century Toxicity Testing and Risk Assessment Methods in a Modernized TSCA

A conference brought to you by ACS and the American Chemistry Council (ACC) - February 16, 2016

Watch presenters outline opportunities for utilizing these methods in a new TSCA and discussed opportunities for enhancing the confidence in use of these methods.

new scientific approaches that can be applied to evaluate the safety of chemicals

Background

Congress is on the verge of modernizing the now 40-year old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). While the provisions of the new legislation are yet to be finalized, there’s no doubt that the new 21st century technologies and approaches for determining toxicity, bioactivity and exposure will be needed to fulfill the requirements for priority setting and safety determinations.  While considerable progress has been made in developing the 21st century approaches and demonstrating their potential utility, additional focus will be needed to enable regulatory use in a modernized TSCA.
