The next gift shipping list will be generated December 4th in order to
deliver prior to the holiday and school closings.
In order to receive either Professor Molarity or the 2018 Periodic Table of the Elements Blanket, you must use a Member-Get-A-Member online application when recruiting! It is the only way you, the Nominator, and the Nominee are linked together. Please read through the steps below then click on one of the gift buttons above to begin the MGM nominating process. If you have any questions check out the Q&A tab, we may have your answer.
There is no limit on the number of new members you may recruit or the number of gifts you can earn – but choose wisely, because we cannot exchange your selection after the MGM evite has been sent.
Log in using your ACS Web ID, click on "Invite someone to join ACS", fill in your Nominee’s info, add a personal message below your name if you would like, and click send. Your MGM evite is on its way to your Nominee.
Once your MGM evite has been sent to your Nominee, you will receive a confirmation message from ACS. Please be aware there can be up to a 2-hour delay in your MGM evite arriving in your Nominee’s email box.
You can only change your gift before you send your evite!
At any time before sending your invitation, come back to this MGM page and click on the selected gift and follow Step 2 above.
Recruit a new paid member by December 31st your nominee will receive a Professor Molenium luggage tag! (while supplies last)
Your Nominee will receive an evite with a direct link to an online application with you as their Nominator.
If there is no response to the original evite, ACS will send two additional reminders, over the next 14 days, to your Nominee encouraging them to join ACS.
After your Nominee submits their online application and pays their dues, ACS will send them a welcome email.
You, the Nominator, will also receive an email confirmation that their Nominee has joined and the selected gift will be mailed shortly.
If your Nominee submits a MGM paper application only they will receive a confirmation email from ACS.
If at any time the Nominee strays from the online application process, and visits other web pages... the MGM link between the Nominator and Nominee is gone! The two are no longer linked together through MGM. Neither Prof Molarity, Blanket, or the gift to the Nominee will ship.
If a Nominee joins using a MGM evite that had been sent PRIOR to the May 7th launch of the Prof Molarity vs Blanket Campaign the Nominator will only receive the blanket. We cannot exchange the gift.
The above JOIN ACS button, in the top right corner, is not connected to the Member-Get-A-Member Campaign.
Professor Molarity with his Periodic Table of the Elements Cape is three pounds of squeezable love and fun! And, retiring January 1, 2019.
In 2005 the ACS developed the Periodic Table of the Elements blanket and distributed only 930 blankets to its members. By 2011, we were distributing over 4,000 blankets.
MGM Nominees will receive the Prof Molenium luggage tag once they become a paid member of the Society. The mole is two-demensional and made of soft rubber. On the back is a slot to enter your name/address. Overall size is 3 1/2" x 2" and comes with a black vinyl strap.
Q. The MGM evite has not arrived in the Nominee's email box.
A. Please have the Nominee check their SPAM, JUNK, and QUARANTINE email boxes. Firewalls and security may be blocking what is not deemed appropriate to them. If the MGM evite does not appear in any of those email boxes please write to MGM@acs.org.
Q. Are MGM paper applications available?
A. Yes, there are two options.
1. If you would prefer to distribute paper applications please contact MGM@acs.org for the applications and mention which gift option
you would like.
2. When the Nominee clicks on the MGM evite link to join, it will take them to the ACS online application. Over to the right is a button option to download a pdf application. If your Nominee goes that route they must choose the appropriate MGM application (U.S. or International), bring it to you, the Nominator to fill in your name and member number. Then the Nominee finishes the process.
In the top right corner of the application will be a MGM code which will have "mole" or "blanket" written. That is how ACS will know which gift you originally chose.
Q. How can I tell if I, the Nominee, joined ACS using a MGM application?
A. Look at your membership dues receipt. Over on the left side there is a code. If that code has "MGM" in it, then you joined ACS through the MGM Campaign!
If you, the Nominee strayed from the online application process, and visited other web pages... the MGM link between the Nominator and Nominee is gone! The two of you are no longer linked together through MGM. No Mole, No Blanket will ship.
Q. Nominators who have sent MGM evites prior to the Caped Crusader vs Blanket Campaign - what gift will be received?
A. Nominees who join ACS using a MGM evite received prior to the launch of this campaign of May 7, 2018 then you, the Nominator, will only receive the blanket.
Q. Can I purchase a periodic table blanket or mole plush?
A. Professor Molarity with his blue Periodic Table of the Elements Cape and the Periodic Table of the Elements Blanket are unique to the MGM Campaign and are not available for purchase. You can purchase a Periodic Table Beach towel or 6" mini-mole with test tube, without the cape, on the ACS Online Store.
Q. When will my gift be sent?
A. Nominators will be sent their gift once the Nominee has been accepted for membership and pays his/her dues by December 31, 2018.
Gifts are shipped only once a month.
The shipping lists are pulled the first Friday of each new month and leave the ACS warehouse the following Wednesday or Thursday.
For each U.S. referral who accepted your MGM evite, we'll send your gift via the United States Postal Service (USPS). If you referred multiple new members, your gifts will arrive boxed via UPS. International shipments will arrive via your local postal carrier and boxed gifts will deliver in country via USPS International Priority.
Nominators should make sure their shipping address is current on their membership record. We prefer not to make deliveries to Post Office boxes. Please write to MGM@acs.org and provide a street address if available.
Q. Who can recruit and who can be recruited for membership?
A. Current Members of the American Chemical Society can nominate colleagues, former members of the Society, university students working towards a degree in chemistry, people whose occupation directly concerns the practice of a chemical science, and whom you think will benefit from membership in ACS. Encouraging a current member to renew their membership does not qualify the Nominator to receive a gift through the MGM Campaign.
Q. When I, the Nominator, reviewed my list of Nominee's I noticed that my Nominee's status says "Already a Member". What does that mean?
A. "Already a Member" can mean:
If your Nominee's MGM evite status is Pending, they have yet to respond to your evite. ACS will send two additional reminders over the next 14 days urging them to join.
The status of Opted-Out means that your Nominee has decided not to join ACS.
The most desirable status to see next to your Nominee's name is JOINED. Your Nominee joined through your MGM evite, went through the entire online application process, and more importantly, your name is on their membership record as their Nominator.
