Member-Get-a-Member

The Member-Get-A-Member Campaign has traditionally offered current American Chemical Society members the opportunity to recruit new paid members and as a thank you ACS would send a Periodic Table of the Elements Blanket to the Nominator.

For the next few weeks ACS is offering you, the Nominator, a choice in gifts. You must choose between the
Caped Crusader Professor Molarity
or the 2018 Periodic Table of the Elements Blanket.

1Step 1: Nominate a Candidate
2Step 2: Candidate applies and pays for membership
3Step 3: Nominator receives gift!

Caped Crusader Professor Molarity

18" tall, three pounds of squeezable fun with a Periodic Table of the Elements Cape.  See more of me on the Gift tab.

2018 Periodic Table of the Elements Blanket

Curl up with all 118 elements laid out over a   50" x 60" cotton blanket.

How to Nominate a Candidate

In order to receive either Professor Molarity or the 2018 Periodic Table of the Elements Blanket, you must use a Member-Get-A-Member online application when recruiting!  It is the only way you, the Nominator, and the Nominee are linked together. Please read through the steps below then click on one of the gift buttons above to begin the MGM nominating process.

1To start, decide which gift you want …

Above are the gifts you must choose between.
There is no limit on the number of new members you may recruit or the number of gifts you can earn – but choose wisely, because we cannot exchange your selection.  A description of each gift is on the Gifts tab.

2You have clicked on the gift …

You are now on the MGM login page. Using your ACS Web ID log in, click on "Invite someone to join ACS", fill in your Nominee’s info, add a personal message below your name if you would like, and click send. Your MGM evite is on its way to your Nominee.
Once your MGM evite has been sent to your Nominee, you will receive a confirmation message from ACS.  Please be aware there can be up to a 2-hour delay in your MGM evite arriving in your Nominee’s email box.

3Caution in choosing your gift ...

If you want to change your gift do so before sending the evite.
Come back to this MGM page and click on the gift you really want, and then send your MGM evite.  Once you send your MGM evite to your Nominee, the gift you clicked on is what you, the Nominator, will be receiving.
So before you submit your MGM evite… think hard.  Do I really want that?
Choose wisely, because we cannot exchange your selection.

4The MGM evite is on its way …

Once your Nominee opens the evite they will see your name as their Nominator and be asked to click on a link that will take them directly to
an online application.
If there is no response to the original evite, ACS will send two additional reminders, over the next 14 days, to your Nominee encouraging them to join ACS.

5Your Nominee has submitted their application ...

Once the Nominee's online application has been submitted and dues have been paid, they will receive a confirmation email welcoming them to ACS.
You, the Nominator, will also receive an email confirmation that your Nominee has joined and a gift will be on its way to you.
If your Nominee joined ACS using a MGM paper application only the Nominee will receive a confirmation email from ACS.

Important to Know!

If at any time the Nominee strays from the online application process, and visits other web pages... the MGM link between the Nominator and Nominee is gone!  The two are no longer linked together through MGM.  No Caped Crusader or Blanket will ship.

If a Nominee joins using a MGM evite that had been sent PRIOR to the May 7th launch of the Caped Crusader vs Blanket Campaign the Nominator will only receive the blanket.  We cannot exchange the gift.

The above JOIN ACS button, in the top right corner, is not connected to the Member-Get-A-Member Campaign.

About the Gifts

Professor Molarity with his Periodic Table of the Elements Cape is three pounds of squeezable love and fun!

  • 18" tall
  • Where did the Professor's name come from? In chemistry, molarity is a concentration unit, defined to be the number of moles of solute divided by the number of liters of solution.
  • Stuffed with 100% polyester and a small batch of PVC pellets in his bum to help him stay upright.
  • The satin polyester cape is affixed with velcro underneath the collar.
  • Suitable for ages 3 and above.
  • Please remove all hanging tags and plastic bag and dispose of properly.
  • Sorry, no substitution of gifts.
  • Professor Molarity is unique to the MGM Campaign and is not available for purchase.

Professor Molarity's arrival to the warehouse has been delayed and is expected around July 27th.  ACS will keep you posted on his delivery to your mailbox.  Our apologies for the delay.

In 2005 the ACS developed the Periodic Table of the Elements blanket and distributed only 930 blankets to its members.  By 2011, we were distributing over 4,000 blankets.

  • 50" x 60"
  • Made in the U.S.A. of 100% Cotton
  • Colors: light cream background with blue and yellow "elements".
  • Machine wash, gentle cycle, for best results.
  • Use only non-chlorine bleach.
  • It is best to hang dry or use the lightest heat temperature in the dryer.
  • Sorry, no substitution of gifts.
  • The blanket is unique to the MGM Campaign and is not available for purchase.

Questions & Answers (Q&A)

  • Q.  The MGM evite has not arrived in the Nominee's email box.

    A.  Please have the Nominee check their SPAM, JUNK, and QUARANTINE email boxes.  Firewalls and security may be blocking what is not deemed appropriate to them.  If the MGM evite does not appear in any of those email boxes please write to MGM@acs.org.

  • Q.   Are MGM paper applications available?

    A.   Yes, there are two options.

    1.  If you would prefer to distribute paper applications please contact MGM@acs.org for the applications and mention which gift option
    you would like.

    2. When the Nominee clicks on the MGM evite link to join, it will take them to the ACS online application.  Over to the right is a button option to download a pdf application.  If your Nominee goes that route they must choose the appropriate MGM application (U.S. or International), bring it to you, the Nominator to fill in your name and member number.  Then the Nominee finishes the process.
In the top right corner of the application will be a MGM code which will have "mole" or "blanket" written. That is how ACS will know which gift you originally chose.

  • Q.  How can I tell if I, the Nominee, joined ACS using a MGM application?

    A.  Look at your membership dues receipt.  Over on the left side there is a code.  If that code has "MGM" in it, then you joined ACS through the MGM Campaign!
If you, the Nominee strayed from the online application process, and visited other web pages... the MGM link between the Nominator and Nominee is gone!  The two of you are no longer linked together through MGM.  No Mole, No Blanket will ship.

  • Q. Nominators who have sent MGM evites prior to the Caped Crusader vs Blanket Campaign - what gift will be received?

    A. Nominees who join ACS using a MGM evite received prior to the launch of this campaign May 7, 2018 then you, the Nominator, will only receive the blanket.

  • Q.  Can I purchase a periodic table blanket or mole plush?

    A. Professor Molarity and the Periodic Table of the Elements Blanket are unique to the MGM Campaign and are not available for purchase.  You can purchase a Periodic Table Beach towel or 6" mini-mole with test tube, without the cape, on the ACS Online Store.

  • Q.  When will my gift be sent?

    A.  Nominators will be sent their gift once the Nominee has been accepted for membership and pays his/her dues by December 31, 2018.

Gifts are shipped only once a month.
The shipping lists are pulled the first Friday of each new month and leave the ACS warehouse the following Wednesday or Thursday.
For each U.S. referral who accepted your MGM evite, we'll send your gift via the United States Postal Service (USPS).  If you referred multiple new members, your gifts will arrive boxed via UPS.  International shipments will arrive via your local postal carrier and boxed gifts will deliver in country via USPS International Priority.

Nominators should make sure their shipping address is current on their membership record. We prefer not to make deliveries to Post Office boxes. Please write to MGM@acs.org and provide a street address if available.

Professor Molarity's arrival to the warehouse has been delayed and is expected around July 27th.  ACS will keep you posted on his delivery to you.

  • Q.  Who can recruit and who can be recruited for membership?

    A.  Current Members of the American Chemical Society can nominate colleagues, former members of the Society, university students working towards a degree in chemistry, people whose occupation directly concerns the practice of a chemical science, and whom you think will benefit from membership in ACS.

  • Q.  When I, the Nominator, reviewed my list of Nominee's I noticed that my Nominee's status says "Already a Member".  What does that mean?

    A.  "Already a Member" can mean:

    • Nominee joined ACS using a MGM evite from another Nominator.
    • Nominee used your MGM evite, went to the online application, but then strayed from the application eventually joining using the JOIN ACS button.
    • Nominee used your MGM evite, went to the online application, started the application, and abandoned the process. At that point ACS sends recruitment emails to those who abandon the application.  Many Nominee's join through that email which is not linked to the MGM Campaign.

If your Nominee's MGM evite status is Pending, they have yet to respond to your evite.  ACS will send two additional reminders over the next 14 days urging them to join.
The status of Opted-Out means that your Nominee has decided not to join ACS.
The most desirable status to see next to your Nominee's name is JOINED.  Your Nominee joined through your MGM evite, went through the entire online application process, and more importantly, your name is on their membership record as their Nominator.
