(Z)-11-Eicosen-1-ol is a major component of a honeybee pheromone. German researchers recently found that a species of orchid, Dendrobium sinense, also produces (Z)-11-ecosen-1-ol and uses it to trick hornets, which are honeybee predators, into landing on its flowers and pollinating them.
