Ganoderic acid is the active ingredient in the Ganoderma lucidum mushroom, also known as reishi, and has been used for thousands of years in herbal remedies to promote immune function. Edible medicinal mushrooms like reishi are the topic of a symposium at the 230th ACS National Meeting in Washington, DC that highlights research of these traditional medicines.
