Lead chromate

October 29, 2007

Lead chromate, also known as chrome yellow, has been used for centuries as a pigment, but it is highly toxic, containing lead and hexavalent chromium (think Erin Brockovich). Chrome yellow is no longer used in house paint, but it is still used in marine and industrial paints, as well as to add color to plastics such as PVC, polyethylene, and polyesters.
