Paliperidone

July 25, 2011

Paliperidone, or 9-hydroxyrisperidone, is an antipsychotic drug sold under the trade name Invega, an extended-release formulation. An “atypical”, or second-generation, antipsychotic, it is an active metabolite of the older drug risperidone. It was approved by the FDA in 2006 for treating schizophrenia and bipolar mania. An improved synthesis of paliperidone is described in the May 2, 2011 edition of Patent Watch.
