John Bachmann

John Bachmann is the principal of Vision Air Consulting, LLC. Until 2007, he was Associate Director for Science/Policy and New Programs for EPA’s Air Office in NC, where he facilitated discussions between scientists and policy makers and assisted in articulating key research priorities and long-term policy directions. He has substantial experience in the health based Ambient Standards (NAAQS), and innovative approaches for implementing clean air programs. He has received numerous awards, including three EPA gold medals for his work on particulate matter NAAQS and the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. Beginning in 2000, he led efforts to develop linkages between intercontinental transport of air pollution and regional scale climate. He was a key participant in the formulation of the Clean Air Interstate Rule (CAIR) and the lead US representative to the UNECE Particulate Matter Expert Group. In 2007, he wrote a Critical Review of the 100-year history of U.S. Air Quality Management, and most recently authored a science/policy primer on black carbon and climate for the Pew Center for Climate Change. He has a BS in Chemistry and Masters in teaching chemistry and in environmental Health Engineering (majoring in air pollution), all from the University of Notre Dame
